Accented Body is a site for creative exploration and research around two primary concepts:

  • the body as site
  • the body in site

Conceived by Cheryl Stock, it began as a two year international interdisciplinary collaboration, culminating in a multi-site interactive promenade performance for the 2006 Brisbane Festival. This creative and practice-led research project has become a platform for ongoing investigations around expanded concepts of the moving body.

It was preceded by two decades of Cheryl Stock’s directorial, choreographic and performance practice with a focus on Australian dance and intercultural performance with Asia, particularly in Vietnam.

Parallel to these creative works Cheryl Stock engages with and writes about practice-led research and other methodologies, particularly those relevant to investigating embodied practice, live and virtual performance, creative arts and intercultural environments.

Current interests focus on the body as an interdisciplinary site of mediation, transformation, cultural hybridity, extreme practices, identity, research and connectivity. The contexts for these explorations are the body in virtual, architectural, natural and cultural sites.
